Monday Moods: “Soul Intuition”

According to their press release, September 30 marks the 15th anniversary of the first time LA band Inner Wave rehearsed together. Even more impressive when you realize they formed as middle schoolers, and that Apoptosis—releasing on, you guessed it, September 30—is their fourth full-length. “Take 3,” a song about the mundane aspects of quarantine life, is a slice of garage funk mixed in with electronic undertones. You can watch a video for the cut here.

A repeat visitor to Monday Moods, LA-via-Chicago artist appleby comes through with “Enough,” a 4/4 summer anthem with R&B vibes that he wrote when he was “overwhelmed with thoughts of how I treated the person I’m in love with.” With a handful of singles released since his last full-length in 2018, the versatile artist is about due for another batch of material—and we’re here for it.

South Carolina-raised, Los Angeles-based 3x Grammy-nominated Asiahn, signed to Motown Records’ imprint Since the 80s, is no stranger to pop greatness, having helped pen hits for superstars like Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Drake, Lil Wayne and others. “OMW” is a sultry piano ballad mixed with koto-plucked notes that feel borderline celestial.

Just earlier this month, LA-based Canadian singer-songwriter Elissa Mielke released her new EP, Finally, on slashie/Mom + Pop. Drawing influence from artists like Joni Mitchell, Mielke embraces messages of courage, love, empowerment and self-exploration, which are laid bare with her dulcet soprano and simple piano. Rozzi, another favorite artist on Monday Moods, is back with “June,” the first single off her recently-released EP Hymn For Tomorrow. She’ll be blessing us with a full-length before the end of the year, so stay tuned!
