Why All Eyes Are on San Francisco as the Nation Enters a Critical Phase in the COVID-19 Fight

The region was the first in the U.S. to impose a shelter-in-place order.

As San Francisco and the Bay Area hit the 11-day milestone of shelter-in-place, much of the nation will be looking to the region to see if these extraordinary efforts will slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

According to Politico, “The Bay Area will serve as a bellwether for when cities and states across the nation can emerge from hibernation—and the extent to which they can return to normal life. Besides being the tech capital of the world and home to cutting-edge biomedical research, the region of 7 million people has everything from the cosmopolitan high-density city of San Francisco to expansive suburbs and rural enclaves, all in relative proximity.
