LA-based Petey released his debut album, Lean Into Life, last Friday, and if songs like LCD Soundsystem’s “Someone Great” speak to your soul, you’re gonna love the title track of Petey’s full-length, which kicks off this week’s Mood. Electro indie-pop duo Magdalena Bay—a.k.a. Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin—don’t drop their album, Mercurial World, until October 8. Says the band of the first single, “‘Chaeri’ muses on mental health, friendship, loneliness and control. It’s about the walls we put up and the walls we should tear down for the sake of authentic connection.”
Next up is the epic “Winter in the Woods” from Leaving Laurel, the musical project that involved Botnik’s Gordon Huntley and the late Pierce Fulton, who sadly passed away earlier this spring after a long bout with mental illness. One day in Laurel Canyon, California, the pair were sharing their own unfinished music with one another. Pierce had an idea for a demo of Gordon’s, which spawned an impromptu writing session lasting the rest of the day. Elated by what had just happened, they continued to write together over the coming weeks, but just as they were getting new momentum, Pierce had to head back to his home on the east coast. The final song they wrote together before his flight was “Leaving Laurel.”
Elohim is no stranger to our Monday Moods playlist, and this new single, “Treat You Better,” is the latest track off her recently released LP, Journey to the Center of Myself Vol.2. You know we love to be in our feels here, so this track and the following one—MUNA’s Version of Charlie Hickey’s “Seeing Things”—are romantic love letters to anyone you’re trying to get a little closer to. Hey, we’re here to help and provide a public service!
